In the United States, breast cancer is the second-most common disease among women (Ting et al., 2018). Breast cancer is responsible for a higher percentage of deaths in African-American women than in White women. The pain and discomfort category affected younger breast cancer patients disproportionately but also had the lowest quality-of-life outcomes for all patients (Pilevarzadeh et al., 2018).

Breast cancer survivors have a significantly lower quality of life than the general population. Breast cancer can negatively affect personal and professional lives as it spreads to other body parts. Cancers can develop in the brain and bones, as well as the liver, lungs and other organs. Other possible consequences are obstructed blood vessels, fractured bones, spinal cord compression and patient discomfort.

Annie is a colleague of mine at Cleveland Clinic Hospital. Annie was diagnosed with breast carcinoma and is experiencing severe symptoms.

Breast cancer is the most common malignancy in women worldwide. According to the GLOBOCAN 2018 report, 670,000 deaths were reported worldwide due to breast cancer (Kurian and colleagues, 2019). The following are nursing actions to treat the breast cancer patient.

Acknowledge Patients

Each breast cancer patient will have different needs. Patients should know if their nurses are experienced in their treatment (Dietz et al.,2020).

Nurses have an immense responsibility to educate patients. Patients who are educated can better take charge of their health and well-being. If patients are involved in decision-making, they will be more likely to participate in treatments that could improve their chances for a positive outcome.

Potential Barriers

Breast cancer treatment is hindered by a lack of information, a reluctance or unwillingness to accept social support and unable to achieve psychiatric recovery. In addition, avoiding male doctors and sensitivity towards women were two major socio-cultural factors (Mokhatri Hesari & Montazeri 2020). Lack of finances and poor health care can also hinder screening and treatment.

Medicaid Cancer Treatment Program

Medicaid Cancer Treatment Program is a Medicaid program for patients with breast cancer that need treatment. Medicare Part A typically covers inpatient cancer treatment (Bullough 2019). Medicare Part B covers several cancer-related outpatient therapies and procedures. It is possible to remain an outpatient while being hospitalized.

American Cancer Society

The American Cancer Society is a non-profit national organization dedicated to curing cancer. The American Cancer Society, founded in 1913, is an organization that consists of medical professionals and members from the public. It has more than 270 branches in all 50 states (Hudson 2018). The mission of this cancer-fighting group is to eliminate breast cancer for all. As the leader in the fight against cancer through legislation, patient assistance and education, they also provide assistance to cancer patients and their families.

Young Survival Coalition (YSC)

The Young Survival Coalition, founded in 1998, is the largest organization dedicated exclusively to young women diagnosed with breast cancer. YSC ensures that no young adult has to fight breast cancer alone through educational materials, yearly seminars, digital and regional support groups, and YSC’s programs and seminars (Nehring 2018).

Affordable Health Care Act (ACA)

According to research presented at the AACR Cancer Health Disparities Conference held in September 2016, the Affordable Care Act may also increase the number of patients with breast cancer seeking treatment in an NCI-designated facility and participating in a diagnostic study in California (Hunsicker & Chitwood 2018).

Leadership strategies to improve outcomes

Clinical nurse leaders (CNLs) are emerging multidimensional nursing professionals that use evidence-based practices to identify gaps in the quality of care, collaboration and administration within a specific group of patients. (Ting et al., 2019. CNLs maximize patient outcomes and corporate efficiency by collaborating with different functional groups in the medical setting. The nursing leader who treats diabetes should use the transformational style of leadership. Making personal connections

The foundation for nurse-patient communications is a robust interpersonal bond. The nurses could perform their clinical duties more efficiently and keep patients interested in treatment if they had lasting interactions (Tsaras et al., 2018).

Communication Skills

Nurses are responsible for ensuring that patients understand and are involved in care programs. This is done along with building relationships. The American Academy of Nursing acknowledged that patient communication was a critical aspect of nursing in 2018. (Rashid et al., 2021).

Health Information Technology and Telehealth

Health I.T. Health I.T. is vital in facilitating effective communication between nurses and patients. For example, nurses have assisted patients with breast carcinoma in an emergency by using personal tablets, digital nurse call bells, and digital assessment devices (Nehring 2018). The digitization of patient education programs has helped improve the connection between nurse and patient.

The Need for Communication, Collaboration and Change Management

Understanding and encouraging the communication needs of patients could improve the healthcare of their patients (Kurian et al., 2019). Counselling is a crucial part of treatment for patients with breast cancer and their caregivers.

I discovered that this disease hurts Sophia’s professional life and quality of life. He said that her career growth would be negatively affected because she is in constant pain and irritation and has to leave the office.

Conclusion

Cancer is a condition in which cells of the body increase without control. Breast cancer is, aside from skin cancer, the most common cancer in women in the United States. The physical irritation category was disproportionately affected by young breast cancer survivors and had the lowest results in terms of quality of life across all age groups.
